Basic video editing PC

BertalanOtvos

Hi there!
I'm planning to build a video editing PC and I'd like to hear your opinion about this setup.

MOBO: ASUS PRIME X370-PRO (mainly for upgradeability for later and the USB-C port)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X

GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz

PSU: Corsair - CXM (2015) 450W 80+ Bronze

Cooler: be quiet! - Pure Rock Slim 35.1 CFM

Case: I already have an older one wich will be fine.

I have around a 1000$ for the build. I want to be able to edit 4K videos (even if it is with 1080p proxies), but later I really wanna learn color grading wich process heavily relies on the GPU.

The AMD Ryzen -X series isnt worth it IMO. Get a normal one without the X which is still overclockable.

I'd say go to a ryzen 5 1600 and a gtx 1060 3 gb because that has a lot better price to performance and the 1600 comes with a pretty decent cooler especially if you're doing light to no overclocking

I realised you also don't have a hard drive listed. Do you already have one because if not a good value for 4k editing is https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822179009&cm_re=4_tb_hard_drive-_-22-179-009-_-Product but it ends soon and can take a lot of storage

Actually, are you going to be overclocking your cpu or gpu?

I think that because there's currently a shortage of NAND storage, (a part of the ssd) the SSD's are about double the price from last year. So, I'd wait until it drops back down to buy it. Also, the gtx 1060 is a much better value so I'd also get that and because you can't use sli, I don't think you need an x370 board but a b350 board instead. So, with $5 to spare, I'd say to buy this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VpCyvV

It's a crap PSU for a reason. (Green Label) Grey one is much better.

Thanks guys you're amazing.

I forgot to mention that I already have storage, a Kingstone SSD for the OS and 2TB of HDD. It's currently enough.

Well I'm planning to overclock the CPU but I don't want to go crazy with that.

Do you think that I should buy the 1700X and save up some money for the 1060 6Gb?
