Need some help from a Blender wizard

So I'm trying to make a very simple animation as an intro for YouTube. I've Googled and figured out pretty much everything I need to know. But I can't figure out how to make the Cell Fracturing function work!

 

My goal is to have the title drop in, and then crumble after a second (I have other ideas, but I want to follow this one through so I know how to do it). No matter how many videos I watch I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with the Cell Fracturing, it's doing nothing. Just hovering with some ugly blobs attached to it that I can't seem to get rid of.

I also can't find if there's an alternative to Cell Fracturing.

 

Any help would be pretty cool
