Having problems stream overwatch

I'm trying to stream overwatch on medium setting with obs (i5 6600k, rx 470, 16gb ram). I'm streaming in 1280x720 in 30 fps and obs is lagging very laggy. I have 40 mbs of up and down and i have 4000 bitrate.

I'd think that would be good enough to stream the game, pls help.

So..you're saying that the stream is laggy?

Try to close all of your background applications that you're not using. That should speed things up.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

At the time i only had discord, obs. spotify, and battle.net open. It also showed that overwtach had about 60+% cpu usage when on medium settings, but only obs was slow, not the game.

Try messing with the settings (following a youtube tutorial if needed; you don't wanna mess anything up) in obs.

If what @Jasun said doesn't help, and you have another machine at home you could stream from, try installing the NDI plugin for obs and rendering on the other machine instead.

That will free up a lot more cpu resources on your main machine - but only do this if you have gigabit Ethernet at home since it can use >100mbit/s of bandwidth on your local network to send the data to be encoded on the other machine.

I just lowered the ingame settings to low and it still takes up 60+% of the cpu, and i had no problems streaming with my rx 480 earlier in the year, but i no longer have it.

Try using the gpu to stream then.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Single threaded CPU

Bitrate too high, reduce to 3000 or 3500

Check what the CPU settings are and trying using a faster setting
