Received RMA package contains previous customer info - what to do? (EU)

Nord

Hopefully this is the correct subforum to ask this:

So basically I did an RMA exchange of a monitor over the manufacturer itself.

The package I received the refurbished monitor in - which is the original package from the manufacturer, the same one you would get if you’d buy the product in a store - basically contains all the information of a previous customer.

On the outside of the box, without opening it, I was able to track down the:

full name

full address

full company name

serial number of the product and RMA code.

As well as the tracking ID from the delivery service.

Typing the serial & RMA code from the package into the manufacturer's homepage, gives me:
Model number of the device they sent in for RMA

When the RMA was requested

And what the outcome of the RMA was. (they got a new device, good for them.)

Using the package deliver code I’m “only” able to see in what zip code area the package was picked up by the delivery service, where & when it went to after and when the manufacturer received it.

So this qualifies as leakage of customer information, right?

If so how hard of a breach are we talking and what is to do here?

Btw. I’m located in the EU, so US / CA etc. laws don't help much.

Thanks.

@Nord or quote me if you want me to reply back. I don't necessarily check back or subscribe to every topic.

Not your problem, notify the manufacturer and destroy the paperwork

This happens more often than you'd think.

Just contact the company's respective customer service department & tell them what happened. They will know what to do.

What'll most likely happen is they will send a courier to pick up the package, notify it's original recipient & send you the correct package.

With regards to a leak of customer information, sure it is, but mistakes happen. Just contact the manufacturer and all will be fine.

Well I cant destroy any paperwork, because everything is taped and/or written on the packaging with a marker. I went over it with a marker though, so its not readable anymore.

Also to clarify, I'm not the "wrong recepiant", I got what I was supposed to get, just that they left the infos of a previous customer on the parcel.

Anyhow, I have informed the manufactuerer now, thanks.
