I figure this would be a good conversation, as I am currently feeling out the current market of keyboards and mice.

What do you guys think, in terms of quality, customization, feature set offers better value to the consumer?

I personally am rocking a G910 Orion Spectrum that was just on sale at Best Buy for $90 here in NY, along with a G903 mouse.

The Romer-G switches are different, but seem nice. They certainly require less force than my Steel Series 6GV2 with Cherry MX Black switches which is easier on my aging hands.

However, though the RGB seems subtle and nice, I do not like how the customization isn't exactly easy. It is requiring me to dust off the old programming skills from my undergrad to write actual programs for this thing, rather than having it easily customizable from the Logitech G software itself.

I use a Cherry MX Red 3.0 keyboard at the office, which I do like, but requires me to mute myself on basically every call I am on, lol.

As for the mouse, I was coming from an aging Logitech G700 that I bought back in 2012. It does not hold a charge anymore, and it was just feeling too weighty. I also didn't enjoy the amount of force the thumb buttons required to push.

However, the G903 really does improve on basically everything. It is tempting me to actually get the power mat later down the line, unless it goes on sale :)

Since it is the holiday season, I would love to know your thoughts!

Using a G910 and G502. LGS is super easy to setup for macros and RGB. Mention me in about an hour and I'll post screenshots of the program and how RGB and macros are created.

Personally been using a G910 Orion, and just picked up a G900.

I've also been a customer for the last 10 years, the customer support has always been great even supporting products that are out of warranty.

If you want wireless and a cohesive software ecosystem for your peripherals Logitechs one of the only good choices.

The spoiler here shows the multi-key macro. I use this one to open radiographs within AviMark, veterinary software I use, and then save them to my disk.

All pictures will be width=300 and you'll have to click to zoom in.

You can also set your KB macros to be used as mouse inputs if you so desire, but honestly I would only use the DPI shifts and G-Shift (changes to a 2nd version of all macros).

Game Mode is up next. You can press the Game key (circled red) to disable ANY key you want disabled. Yes, you can disable the home row if you feel like pranking someone. LED toggle is circled white and only toggles your backlighting on or off. I have not tested if there is a combination to set your KB to blank or rainbow or any other nonsense. If you're wondering what those icons are at the top-right, those are profiles and you can set any game to any macros or backlighting options. Some games like the Division will override your backlighting, if you let it, so that you become aware of what keys fill what role (red is WASD for movement, white is for inventory and other menus, and blue is for offense) and they will activate when you enter the game and you don't have a backlight profile for them already in place.

#1: Explains the Game Mode and Backlight Toggle.

#2: Explains the Freestyle mode. These are static, but every switch can be made a different color. Also, pardon the word presented. Not much sense in this one unless you're super boring or like the color red and only red.

#3: This is the Zones lighting. You can make a profile for games (just click the upper-right double-arrow to enable this) so that you can color what keys belong to which group, i.e. healing spells, damage spells, movement, or press to chat sets.

#4: Commands for games. This will change based on what keys LGS detects are set for the program in question, you're seeing how it detects R6S at the moment.

#5: Shows pre-made effects by Logitech. The drop-down shows all of the effects there are and the white arrow points to the direction of the effect (horizontal (shown), vertical, or center-out). The red arrow points to frequency of cycles, left is slower and right is seizures. Star effect is my favorite of them.

#6: Shows the custom creation. Circled white is the direction (cycle, reverse cycle, bounce, and randomize). I haven't played much with this, but I'll show the creation tools in the next spoiler. There are plenty of options for this one and they look much like the pre-made settings from #5.

Here's the custom creator:

In the top-right, you have the transitions. Pretty self-explanatory on how the transition will cycle between the frames at the bottom. The light-gray shows the transition from the last frame and how quickly it is overtaken or blended with the next frame which is dark-gray. The transitions are linear, bilinear, logarithmic, long bilinear, ebb and flow (decreasing below the gradient before going back up and moving to the next like a tide), the next two are bell curves, etc.

These transitions are easy to use and make creation far simpler than what it would seem. The timeline is where you'll add or delete frames. You can shorten or lengthen frames by holding the three dots on the right-side of the frame, you're only seeing linear frames on the picture you're seeing how they look when mixed between linear and ebb and flow. The colors you see in the frames have to be set by right-clicking, but they are useful as they will color-key with the primary color you're working with on that frame allowing you to track how the frames flow.

I'm not going to take screens of the macros as you can see the options above, but you can set nearly anything you'd want to set. Shortcuts, common multi-key commands, and blocks of text can all be added to the macros on the KB and the mouse you choose. Using profiles, while time-consuming, is a great thing to have as it allows you to keep each game feeling more satisfying as you don't need to thumb-wrestle you M key for map as you can set it to the left macros or to add leaning to your mouse freeing up E and Q for other options (set K and L to lean and tie your mouse to those keys #winning).

If you have nay other questions, feel free to ask.

Edit: This is what the G502 looks like using the onboard memory rather than the computer profiles. I would recommend setting these up first, so that you have a fall-back on your mouse settings.

Awesome write up!

This actually covers a lot, and explains some of the more confusing parts :)

My only question now is, is it possible to have specific effects take place depending on the key that was pressed?

For example, I would love to program this keyboard for, say in Dead by Daylight, when I hit the space bar for a skill check, it makes the entire keyboard flash white.

I would love to link it to other cool things, like say the killer is close, and it can pulsate based on the rate of heart beat.

That last one may not be possible without creating a separate applet.

So far, I have been creating some macros for Warframe. This covers things like using one button to do the slide jump, as well as configuring my scroll wheel to initiate five key presses for quick melee, so I do not have to keep mashing the melee key.

There will be more depending on the other games I play for sure :)

Some games will override your profile, the Division actually fades your key to black when a skill is used and returns it back once it's available again. I haven't played Dead by Daylight much so I can't say anything for the heartbeat, but you can't set it to do something like the skill check unless you look into the SDK for LGS. There are plenty of profiles already set up by Logitech and different developers for the RGB commands.
