m.2 storage question

hey guys, i have a question about using a m.2 ssd. In my  build i have now, i have a 1tb seagate barracuda, and an Adata 128gb ssd. i wanted to add a m.2 to my system. My msi z170a sli motherboard has a m.2 slot on it, but can i do this if im using two other storage devices? i heard that sometimes when a m.2 is added some sata ports are disabled. anyone know anything about this?

Check the manual for your board. If use add in a SATA m.2 ssd this can use up and disable one of the ports you are currently using. If you pick up an PCIe based m.2 you should be fine.

Yes, whenever an M.2 slot is occupied by an M.2 SSD, one of the sata ports on the motherboard can be disabled.

yes, one or more sata ports on the motherboard can be disabled. But this is only a problem if you are using all SATA ports.
