Windows 10 Task Manager (4)

Go to solution Solved by Theguywhobea,

Nah, my task manager looks like that on a machine with only an SSD, I think that number represents the order the apps were opened or their priority? Mine go all the way to 12.

So I did a reinstall of Windows 10 but kept old info and I guess I'm just rusty at all this since i ran into a few issues. I have my OS on an SSD and my media drive on an HDD. I couldn't get windows, settings, applications, installed to recognize anything installed on the D:( media) drive. So I formatted it and started over. Anyways, I see programs like Cortana in task manager with a "Cortana (2)" like multiple copies are running, GTA V, Steam, and other apps do this as well. So my question, is this normal? Did my Windows 10 double up on the repair/reinstall? Should I start with a fresh install of Windows?

Thanks in advance, I've just never noticed those numbers before and everything seems to be fine aside from GTA V no longer works, its stuck in an infinite loading loop.

You know, if you press that right arrow button next to a task, you can see sub tasks under that program and find out what it is.

Also, my way of getting installed programs on other drives to work again after a reinstall with Windows, is to just create a desktop shortcut to a program on that drive. It's at least how I do it, since I reinstall Windows more than I'd like... lost count how many times I've done it, but I think it's 6 to 8 times this year.

Ah, thanks for explaining. I was unaware that's what the numbers meant or how to expand it. Usually just look down the list and see what else is tied to that same name. That way is much easier! Also thanks for the tip about getting windows to recognize a drive. I've only had to reinstall once since windows 10 launched and this time it was my own fault.
