Hey everybody

I recently bought a GTX 1070 MSI Aero, and with it, came a lot of new configs I was able to do on my 1080p display. Anyway, I wanted to ask to the pro users about the balance between Vsync and FPS.

I have been trying to limit my FPS to 60, so that my card doesnt work more than it needs to. How did I do this? Well, I had several options. First one was limiting my FPS on Riva's Plugin, for Msi Afterburner. Capped it to 60-65. The thing is some titles had LOTS of screen tearing issues. Knowing what I know, I activate Vsync to keep it under control.

Next problem, lots of input lag. I've seen some guides that say that I can cap FPS at 58 and use Vsync, so that there would be no input lag. Well, I tried this on a very time sensitive game, CSGO. The thing is I could still feel the input lag.

I wanted to post about my process so that pro users can help me balance all these features out, preferably activating Vsync and somehow reducing input lag

Im glad to answer any questions I wasnt clear about. I need to fix this!

Thanks!

VSync will introduce input lag no matter what you do.

Without GSync/FreeSync all you can do is play around with settings and fps limits to try and soften the amount of screen tear.

Gsync and Freesync depends on the monitor right? My 1070 should be Gsync capable

Theoretically speaking, why doesnt frame capping solve the tearing problem? Video card outputs 60 fps, Monitor displays 60 fps. Whats up with that?

They aren't synced. A monitor refreshes at a set interval (iirc 16.66ms for 60hz) but the gpu doesn't output a complete frame every 16.66ms. It's this mismatch that causes the tearing.

GSync and FreeSync try to fix the problem by letting the gpu tell the monitor when to refresh.

You can try this.

https://www.blurbusters.com/howto-low-lag-vsync-on/

Enable Vsync and Frame capping. Works great for me except on games that doesn't like RTSS like rFactor 2.
