Using multiple PSUs

The problem with that is that I do not want to connect this PSU to my motherboard as it’s quite bad. Is there any problem with turning on the power supplies at different times?

It's only connected via a ground wire and the PS_ON wire. Those pins don't actually carry any power, it can't kill the board from that, they just bridge the pins to turn on the PSU.

If you really don't want to, you can turn on the PSUs at different times. I'd turn on the PSU connected to the drive first to ensure it gets picked up by the system when booting. It just means you have to jump the PSU every time you turn on the PC or wire up a new power button for the second PSU.

I want to use multiple power supplies, one to power a drive and one to power everything else. Is there an order or something I should use to turn on the power supplies? Is there a chance my secondary PSU can kill my motherboard through SATA data? My system is in my sig. Thank you.

You can get a jumper connector that makes both PSUs turn on when you push the power button. I'd just use one of those.

It may technically be possible, from a purely theoretical standpoint. Practically, it can't.

Why don't you get a bigger powersupply? Like with more cables?

I just have this one sitting around so I want to make use of it

I just want to know if there are any risks involved ( such as frying something other than the drive connected to it). I’m not really concerned with how useful it is

There's is practically no risk of killing anything that isn't actually getting power from the PSU. It's technically possible, but it's so unlikely that it's not a risk.

Ok thanks. Is there an order I should turn on the power supplies ( like turn the computer on first and then the power supply )?

Get one of these. That way when you turn the PC on, both PSUs start up at once.

Why?

And yes, you can damage the components because they aren't designed for this....

This is kinda off topic, but instead of dual ASUS GTX 1070s you should've gone for GTX 1080 Ti FE. Just saying.

The dual does not have 2 gpu’s, just 2 fans. It’s a stupid naming scheme IMO.
