Hey Linustechtips forum!

I'm new to the forum and English isn't my native tongue. I recently bought a Asus gtx 1080 Video card for my pretty old PC, i know from the bottlenecks. But when i installed it and powered it up it worked great i had idle temps around the 30°C's and under load temps form 60°C to 70°C with custom fan controls. But recently my HDD died and had to reinstall windows. I know, I don't have my OS on the HDD but something weird happened with the installation and (ended up with a little bit of windows on my HDD)  if that possible... somehow. Anyway after the reinstalling Windows 10, geforce experience, drivers and applications. I noticed that the temps where getting close to the 100C and this with the default ''gaming mode'' profile in GPU tweak II. After i set the fan controls to my custom one. I will get temps from 83°C average so a little improvement. I have tried to overclock my GPU on the previous installation of windows. But this didn't do any thing because of the bottleneck from my CPU. I currently have the Intel i5 4460. Personally i'm not a great fan of high temps on my PC. I don't mind fan sound but on auto fan control my fan speed was 100% that was quite annoying obviously.

I don't know if this has any thing to do with my GPU but i want to give you the best information to help me troubleshoot/fix this problem. I also have issues with Full-screen and border-less screen on my Asus ROG swift pg279q in Battlefield 1. Whenever i set the settings on Full-screen or border-less the screen will freak out, turning black, closing BF 1 window opening it again so on and so so forth. Sometimes when i alt tab the video setting will be set to default. In World of Warcraft when in loading screen my second monitor just freezes for the duration of the loading time and when i move my cursor it is just fine.

I apologize for the English error's but this problem is getting real annoying real fast.

Feel free to ask me anything

your sincerely, Silvan

Install MSI Afterburner and try monitoring what's happening with the graphics card.

Is something using the graphics card a lot? Are the fans spinning?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

I Will try msi afterburner and yes the fans are spinning real loudly. no just the game and a second monitor with YouTube or twitch.

Just to clarify; you have not changed your CPU, only the HDD?  Did you take anything else apart when changing the drive?  Is the new drive in a location that is blocking airflow that the old drive was not?

Nope the HDD is in the same place as the old one.

The first thing that went to my head is that it can maybe be a virus that went into your PC and now you are "mining" for someone else. Just guessing....

What is the GPU usage (Install GPU-Z) and maybe even look up your CPU usage to while you're at it (CPU-Z).Try installing Malwarebytes and scan your PC... I'm really curious

I ran malware-bytes and it did'nt found anything. As of the CPU usage i don't see anything of off the ordinary

Try formatting the HDD and installing it again.
