Relatively New PC Extremely loud! Please Help

thutzell13579

Recently, my PC (hp prebuilt) has been extremely loud, even at idle(11% cpu usage). It is less than a year old and was dead silent when I got it. I thought there might be too much dust, so I looked, and there was none. My CPU and GPU temps are pretty low (see screenshot). It is getting difficult to concentrate with such loud fans at this point. Can someone guide me in the right direction. Do I need new fans? Is this a bios problem? New heat sink? Any help is tremendously appreciated

Thanks

No, the HDD is stock and the PC is only about 8 months old

do you know the name of the hp prebuilt?

Could you send an audio file of the noise?

I don't think it is the HDD anymore because of the age of the pc.

try adjusting the fans in the bios.

It doesn't give me an option in the Bios to adjust the fans

No wonder it's loud, the CPU cooler fan runs at constant 2150 rpm, even while the PC is on idle and the CPU temp is 30°C. There should definitely be an option to control the CPU fan speed in BIOS. Do you know the mobo model by any chance? I couldn't find it in the link.

I suspect the fan is in DC mode and runs on max rpm instead of adjusting based on CPU temps.

Its a stock hp mobo. In the bios, it said american megatrends, if that helps at all

Do you know of any software that allow you to change it, and if so, what rpm should it be at.

I've been surfing around and found that 2000 to 2500 rpm is normal. It might be a bad fan.

You should be able to set the fan to PWM mode instead and set a curve to make it adjust the voltage based on CPU temp. However, that's done in bios.

You could try messing with the fan speed using SpeedFan, but I would honestly just try to figure out how to set up the fan in bios. Did you get a manual for the mobo? I think they give you the manuals, even when it's a pre-built system.

Okay, first of all, you should open up the case and listen to the fans to figure out which one is making all that noise. NZXT CAM doesn't show case fan RPM.

No, NZXT CAM is the monitoring software OP used in the first post. You can see the CPU cooler fan RPM there, but you cannot see the RPM of individual case fans.

First things first. Find out what is making noise. Second, find out if you can control that fan. Does BIOS have any setting about fans? You could try Speedfan but newer chipsets aren't really supported (newer mobos have good enough controls themselves). If its GPU, you can use MSI Afterburner. If its CPU fan, and you are willing to go through possible RMA hassle, find out how much space you have for cooler. As in measure distance from socket to side panel.
