Gaming settings not working

My rig currently is a 27 240 and a ryzen 3 1300x with 8 gb of ram. Whenever im in games like ark or assasins creed i try to set the settings to high but when i go to play the game they are still showing in the low settings. by this i mean the graphics that my display is showing looks just like when i had the low settings on. is my rig just to under powered for me to even try the higher settings. the weird thing is it shows me losing fps but i dont get the better graphics

So im going to guess you have a R7 240. That card cant game for crap. You arent going to go anywhere with that card no matter how hard you try. Maybe if you had a GT 730 of the GDDR5 variant you could have a chance but the R7 240 is way too weak

i know that i plan on upgrading to the 1050 in fact its alredy shipped but i was wondering shouldnt i still be able to run the high settings at 1 fps or something

You kidding? (Unless its the DDR3 version, fuck that thing). The card is nice (tho I agree its only worth $25 to $30), substantial boost compared to my HD 6530D. The card is lovely imo

i dont want to play at those frame rates i wanted to see the graphic quality on my monitor because i wanted to compare the different vidoe qualities

Remember that Linus rant video where he told people why you should save up for a good midrange card instead of buying some crappy low-end card?

 

That GTX 1050 should do a much better job running games, however

Well then just look the images up? It would be way easier and less painless. Just look up images of the higher graphics setting and bam

also the only reason i had an r7 240 was because i was cheap and it was 10 bucks on ebay and it played some nice old games just so you know

For $10, it’s not a bad deal to get a rig working until a better GPU can be installed

The closest I had to that was a GT 750M.

 

Fine for TF2 but shows its age pretty quickly in new games even in 768p.

Kinda does, But since the most demanding game I play is crysis 3 and that runs at 1080p low I say it still holds its own

For me, I couldn’t stand playing the newer games with so many jagged edges due to 2x-no AA and the framerate isn’t up to par. It runs TF2 just fine but it struggles in the newer games and as of late, it even had trouble running TF2 for an extended period without underclocking the GPU.

FYI, the difference between ultra and low isn't as shocking as you'd think. in games like battlefield 1, I have a hard time telling the difference between medium and ultra.

It stays at a stable 30 tho, on Crysis 3 ffs. Its a miracle what $30 can do with that small of a card. Tomb Raider (2013) ran at 1080p Medium with some AA at 40. When you really start to see its age is in poorly optimized games

I’m not saying it’s a crap card, but my old 750M just got worse with age.

 

Eventually, it can’t even run a game without crashing unless I underclock.

 

Also, I tried gaming at 30 after 6 years of playing at 60. Is it me or after that period of time, 30 suddenly feels like a slideshow? Not even kidding. I played Forza at 30FPS and it just felt so awkward after years of 60.

 

$30 tho. Not a bad deal for something that can even play Crysis 3.
