If this is just for gaming I'd pull that 8600k down to a 8400 and upgrade the 1060 to a 1070 maybe. You'll get far better performance in games with that. And if you have any money left i'd invest in a higher capacity SSD.

That exceeds my budget though :(

Does RAM speeds make much of a difference in the performance?

And by the way, thank you so much...

I would totally love to go with ryzen, however, I saw the benchmarks for the new intel's coffee lake cpus versus the ryzen, and besides gaming I am not going to do any video editing or CAD software. But, I am going use virtualization for my studies and I think that intel handles that really well, whereas ryzen need some tuning for stability.

And thank you so much for your time.

True, but you'd be limiting yourself in terms of GPU power via budget.  If it's that important then I guess do the Intel build.

I am stuck between intel coffee lake architecture or ryzen's raw power. Gaming is my main priority though, virtual machines are secondary.
Help me out, brother.

i5 if your main concern is gaming because you can upgrade to an i7 in that regard.  From what I heard the 8600k is just a restricted 7700k.  Ryzen is better if you're doing gaming and multitasking.

They both are 6 core CPUs though...

Core count doesn't equate to performance.  It comes down to instruction sets and engineering design of how they both work considering they're on different platforms/architectures.

is 1070 ti any good or is it just a nerf of 1080?. I would like to drop my hard disk for extra bucks.

It's just a nerfed 1080 that can't be OCed, but it's not terrible.  Options to look at are Vega 56/64, 1070, 1070ti, or a 1080.  Vega 64 is around a 1070ti, 56 is around 1070, and 1080 ti is on a tier for its own.  If Vega 64 is cheaper than a 1070 ti then get it.  Pretty much the same.

Vega prices are surging a lot. Imma wait for black friday and boxing day sales. And gonna go with whats available at what price for intel i5 8400.

Do get a z370 board if you plan to upgrade to a k processor in the future.

Totally, thank you so much, fellow earthian. Have a good rest of the day.
