This is my 1st build and I intend to use the system for pretty much just gaming. I made another post (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/853982-first-pc-build/?tab=comments#comment-10640710) for a different build with an AMD processor and slightly different components. This build is with an i5 processor and slightly more expensive. I want to be able to run AAA titles at medium-high settings and also make sure that I leave room for future upgrades. Still deciding on whether to get a 1080p or 1440p monitor. It will honestly depend on what deal I can get on one. Let me know if there's anything I can get that is similar performance wise for cheaper than what I have or if I'm missing any important info. :)

If it was me, I would probably get the i3-8350k instead of the 7600. You would need a 370 board as well, but when overclocked to 4.8-5.0ghz, the 8350k will outperform the 7600, and even the 7700,at stock speeds  in gaming applications. They are both 4c/4t CPU,but the 8350k has advantage of overclock ability, which has a considerable effect on performance in gaming.

Kaby Lake is dead and no one should buy it

a Coffee Lake i5 8400 will be better than Ryzen at 144hz gaming, however a Ryzen 5 1600 is likely a better value overall due to SMT, and it's actually in stock. Ryzen will still do like 100fps average in AAA games

Your monitor choice is between 1080p 75hz IPS and 1080p 144hz TN, both with free-sync so you should get an RX 570 or 580, you easily have the budget for the 580 8GB for a bit more performance, it will do 1080p just fine 1440p needs some tweaks to hit 75 fps average

I don't notice refresh rate so much, so I'd go for IPS for sure, better color reproduction and viewing angles.

There's also room if you want like an SSD, or 16gbs of RAM, probably not needed, you may want a better motherboard like the ASrock Killer SLI/ac but it's like $150 right now.

There's a few problems I have with this. For one the 8350k doesn't have a stock cooler and it's already a $200 cpu + the motherboards for it are kinda expensive. Also this is my first build and I'm not really comfortable with overclocking or know how to right now for this matter, so I don't think I'd get the full benefit from the overclockability. Thank you though.

Yeah, if you were to get that processor with intent of overclocking, a stock cooler wouldn't suffice even if it did come with one.

If you don't plan on overclocking, I would get the 8400, or a ryzen 1600x. I wouldn't buy a kaby lake. There's nothing wrong with them, I own a KL CPU myself, there are just options that offer a better value.

I was debating on whether or not to go for the 1600x or the 1600 in my other build. The 1600x also doesn't come with a cooler like the i-3 8350k. I do have a question though. For just gaming, would it be better to get a 6 core processor or get a one with higher clock speeds for about the same price? I'm pretty sure I know the answer I just want to know for sure.

Most of the time, speed is King, along with IPC. It depends on the processor you're looking at too. For example, an FX quad core processor overclocked as high as it gets, would get demolished in comparison to a ryzen, while an overclocked 8350k will outperform a stock 1600.

Granted, this is strictly speaking in gaming applications. When you throw multi-threaded workload into the mix, that changes drastically.
