some am3 motherboards support am3+ CPUs but usually no. you can check sockets by checking which CPU/motherboard you have and use some google-fu to find out which socket they're made for.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Am3 CPUs will fit in AM3 and AM3+ sockets. AM3+ CPUs will only fit in AM3+ sockets.

that's not even factoring in possible AM2/+ compatibility

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM3%2B

but really there's no point in trying to figure out dead sockets.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Yeah, I didn't want to go into the whole massive forwards compatibly thing AMD has had going for many years before AM4 with using the same physical socket and offloading so much to the North ridge they could just slap in a two or three platform/socket old CPU and it may possibly work but isn't guaranteed thing.
