GTX 970 powerstarved?

Hey folks.

Just got a used GTX 970. Whenever I play games for a few minutes, the screen tends to go black (monitor can't find an output) yet I still hear the sound. Could it be that my PSU 8 pin + 2 Molex to 6 pin cannot provide ample power?

if the gpu lacked power, it would have BSOD or shut down prematurely, I think your issue lies somewhere else.

I think you should try another monitor cable. I've had issues in the past with bad cables causing random black screens for a couple of seconds.

CPU: i7-12700KF Grill Plate Edition // MOBO: Asus Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 // RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14

GPU: MSI GTX 1080 FE // PSU: Corsair RM750i // CASE: Thermaltake Core X71 // BOOT: Samsung Evo 960 500GB

STORAGE: WD PC SN530 512GB + Samsung Evo 860 500GB // COOLING: Full custom loop // DISPLAY: LG 34UC89G-B

if you really think its power starved you could try setting low limits and underclocking it,i'd set the limits as low as they go just to see if anything changes

I think I'll try that next.

Currently running DDU and installing drivers again.

I had once graphics card installed without power cables connected back in the days when it wasn't obvious that gpus needed additional cables. Since someone else installed the card and the case obviously had no windows to see through I ran several times this machine without this additional power cable. From my experience I didnt see anything wrong on the first glimpse. Windows ran normally and all applications aswell - but games. When I ran anything gpu-intensive the system shut down prematurely without any warning. Probably the gpu drew more power then it should from motherboard making mobo undervolt the cpu and everything out of lack of power shut down completely. I had it happen several times and nothing was damaged in the system.
