I just got an 840 evo and did a fresh install. I want to make my my 2 WD blacks in a raid 0 for mass storage. The only thing is with my board when i enable raid for ports 1-4 i can only do IDE for the rest of the ports. I did some reading and found that I should put my SSd in port 1-4 with my raid aray. I also saw that raid works as AHCI and then when I set up my raid it will ignore my SSD and run it as AHCI

So I guess my guestion is if i put my ssd with the raid I should keep the AHCI mode right and this is the best solution?

I have no idea bud, I've never tried to run a raid configuration. But I honestly wouldn't run raid 0 with wd blacks, they're already performance drives, and they're Hard drives, and you've got an SSD. I honestly doubt the performance increase will be worth the risk in failure.

Put all the ports in RAID. from there use the key capture (Ctrl+i/K or whatever it says in your mobo). In that menu you can specifiy what HDD's are a RAID array and what are not.

You can even put a disk drive/ssd/backup drives in the RAID enabled ports just as long as you specify what HDD's are included in the raid. The mobo will then display that the rest are "Single Disks" and the two Black drives will be listed as "Array Volumes" Just remember however that with more and more disks = more and more chance for failure and you will loose all that data if any one drive fails.

Also note that the 840 EVO's are not capable of RAID but the Pro's are (if you plan to run an SSD RAID0 config like me later on)

Thanks this is what I had fingured. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to kill somthing lol. I have had the wds in raid 0 for a while now and I am aware of the risks and the data on them will either be backed up or don't care if i lose. mostly steam games and maby make it the page file.

I won't be puting my SSD in raid. With rapid mode on this thing is crazy fast. Nice setup BTW

I had 15 hours of issues working out RAID0 myself. windows is just terrible with RAID's. I had a sata cable go bad, windows 8 not installing, Windows 8  not updating to 8.1, disk drive not working correctly. To then leaving the stripe size at 64kb and 512 sector and it works flawlessly first time..... frustrating times :P
