1) You should get the i5 8400 and wait for B360 boards to come out.

2) At least get a GTX 1060 6GB

3) Get 2X4 DDR4

That works if he can lift the budget significantly.

Personally, I'd push for a better GPU, maybe a 1050Ti..?

Don't upgrade your processor/motherboard.

Get more RAM, 16GB is a minimum for my builds

Upgrade your graphics card, the 1070 has an amazing price/performance balance.

Your motherboard/processor are most likely just fine.

Unless you intend on selling your current system to upgrade to a new system, then do whatever you want. haha.

Gaming Desktop: ASRock Phantom Gaming X, R9-3900x, 64GB RAM, 1.5TB SSD

NAS Box: Gigabyte Z97, i5-4690, 32GB RAM, 22TB, 1TB SSD Cache.

Firstly, the glaring issue: Why a 6600K with that chipset? Unless I am wrong, then you won't be able to overclock it and so should either get a cheaper 6600/6500 or get a Z170 board.

Beyond that? People are going to push you to get newer, pricier components; if you've got a tight budget don't get obsessed with this. That said, but you would do well to get a more modern GPU, but  it all depends on what resolution you want to use - a GTX 1070 is great value, if you need the power, but probably excessive for 1080p.

Update your post to give a budget and a more detailed use-case and the replies may get more helpful. :-)

16gb is just not needed for gaming 8gb is enough for gaming
