HDMI audio quality?

the hdmi cable will not effect the sq at all. However the quality of the amp in your tv might.  try it and see which sounds better.

Hello guys,

 

I have a hdmi cable running from my pc to my tv, my tv has a headphone out jack. I can hook up my headphones to that jack and get the audio from my hdmi cable.

 

How will this compare (quality-wise) to having the headphones connected directly to my pc (built-in sound)? Does this depend on the TV (how it processes the sound received from hdmi)? What would be the better option?

The TV's DAC and amp will likely be worse, but it's worth trying out to see.
