Netgear Genie firmware update just killed my router. Their sending me a new one but has anyone else had this happen?? THIS IS BS 

PS --Their help line told me i shoudnt of done the firmware update

I haven't had it happen to me, but firmware updates are notoriously finnicky. If you can avoid a firmware update, I would take their advice and avoid it because of how easy it is to brick devices when your messing with firmware.

This is why I dont buy netgear routers. They have insecure firmware and support gives bad advice. Updating firmware is essential to keep your router safe and secure. As most updates provide security patches. Also, what happens when your router has a bug in the firmware? You going to replace it, when you can update the firmware for free and fix the issue. Also, many people are going to be updating their firmware due to the security issue recently found in WPA2. So Netgear support needs to get their heads out of their asses.
