I am looking to upgrade the isp included router and found a deal on a Asus RT-AC51U today. Will i notice any slowdowns since the RJ45 ports only support 10/100? I have a 30/30 mbit connection.

Are you sure it's actually an upgrade from your existing router? Are you having issues with it?

ISP provided routers often get a lot of flack but most of them are actually pretty decent at being routers, just the WiFi often sucks. If you just want better WiFi, you'd be better off buying an access point than a new router.

I live in an apartment building so there at no modem in the apartment, so yeah an access point may be a better purchase. I do have issues with the network coverage and slowdowns. Therefor i think i will benefit from a upgrade.

If it's network coverage (as in, wireless), and access point is what you want really. Slowdowns could be due to a number of things. Unless you're hitting it pretty hard, I somewhat doubt it would be the router, especially not on a 30/30 connection.

As I mentioned, most ISP provided units are decent routers, so they're generally fine if you're using wired, but when it comes to WiFi they often suck. If you're in an apartment building, I'd say a dual band access point would be the best option. The 5GHz band should have less interference from other networks.

EDIT: Also, to answer the question about the 100Mbps ports, it wouldn't limit any internet traffic as the ports have more bandwidth than your connection to the ISP, but if you're doing local transfers, you'll be limited to 100Mbps.

Forgot to specify, its WiFi slowdowns.I will look into access point prices and if they can match the deal i found earlier.

Thanks for the help!
