Windows doesn't detect AVCHD clip...?

Hello!

I just recorded a 5-ish minute clip with my panasonic lumix dc fz-82. In order to save space on my hdd, I recorded in 1080p with 25 fps and -because the camera didn't really let me change- AVCHD. The problem now is that my camera does see this clip and play it without any problems, my computer doesn't. 

Could please someone help me out?

Are you trying to play it with Windows Media Player? Try VLC.

How are you offloading it to the computer?

 

Are you plugging in an SD Card into the computer that contains the footage? Are you directly connecting the camera via a USB cable?

Going to try now, that machine's running windows 7; maybe that'll do it...

No, the windows 7 machine didn't detect the files either...

So when you insert the SD card, it shows a formatted and useable drive, that is empty?

@dalekphalm No, both of them show an usable SD card with all my .jpg, .rw2 and .mp4 files. Only the AVCHD clip is not detected.

What file extension does your camera record for the AVCHD files?

 

AVCHD is a codec, not a file type. AVCHD is often recorded as .mp4 files, so have you checked all of the mp4 files to make sure it's not hidden in there?

I know. Once, I recorded an AVCHD clip for testing reasons and it showed up as a .MP4 file. I recorded it on 10/30/2017. There are just files created on 10/29/2017 and 10/31/2017... I even checked for hidden files.

Sounds like something is wrong with your camera or the SD card itself. I'm sorry I don't think I know what the solution is. You should contact support from the Camera Manufacturer.

 

I would also try loading a Linux LiveCD (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, GParted, whatever), and see if it can see the missing file on the SD Card.

@dalekphalm From what I've experienced, everything is fine. The camera works 100% fine and so does the SD card. It even plays that clip when plugged into the camera. It even works on my mobile using the Panasonic image app... That app has the capability of transferring files, but it says "this file cannot be sent"...

Well, obviously something isn't fine then  Especially since you tried two separate computers, both of which have the same problem. Therefore, I would assume the problem is the SD Card or the Camera.

 

Or you just got unlucky, and that file is partially corrupted (If so, you're boned).
