i have an AMD Radeon 280x made by Club 3d. its their royalKing card.

this card goes up to 90c in gaming and 93c when i mine with it. i read on toms hardware that their 280x from club 3d went up to 74c. what? am i missing something?

i tried asking their support for help, but its been around 3 days since their last response. they wanted me to log the cards activity while i played games and such.

im starting to wonder if its normal for my 280x to run at 93c...

Maybe the thermal compound has an issue.

edit: (I hit around 76-82C with 65% fan speed while mining)

the case has very good air flow. it kept my 7950 at a nice 75c when overclocked and 73c at stock. i replaced the tim so there goes my chance to return the card to newegg. (seal broken). even with fans raised at 10c% it still goes up to around 89c but still sucks. this is at stock. like 1100 core 1500mem stock.

im starting to regret buying the 280x. specifically from club3d since this thing coil whines. i thought they would have seen this issue and fixed it. i also found another article of other peoples 280x and 290 and 290x graphics cards running hotter than what they saw on other review sites. and from teh looks of it, i dont think my 280x has tahiti xtl. reading all this makes me feel despondent about the purchase i made. i really am hoping i am missing something.

also, in 13.10, i can control the fan. but in 13.11, i cannot control the fan at all. even used the amd uninstaller (i saved a copy of it before they removed it from their site due to windows 8) and then re-installed 13.11. same problems.

raised at 10%?meaning it's at 10% or what?

-if it's at 10% there's your reason right there,it shouldn't be run at lower than 60% when the card is at full load, and I'd run it at 100% when mining.

also did you use screws to hold the card in place?

-the screws keep the card from sagging too much, because if it sags to a certain point the cooler stops making good contact with the gpu core and the temps can be much worse than they should be.

Do you have the temp and power thresholds set?

-the card could be overclocking itself to meet the temp threshold .

My HD 7970 (Sapphire Dual-X)...the R9-280X is BASICALLY a factory overclocked 7970...never reaches that high of a temperature.

IMO, maybe something is fishy with the cooler...

75*C / 73*C is okay for a HD 7950, but still quite warm.

My HD 7970 at stock speed, fans speed at 50% max's out at about 57*C in Furmark, and 62*C / 63*C with fan speed dropped down to 45%.

It's friggin cool here in Canada...currently 19*C room temp (heater is on), card idles (while typing this) at 24*C with fan on Auto.

What computer case / chassis are you using?

What is are fan setup? (i.e. how many fans, the size of them, etc)

i mean to say 100%. im tired. anyway, even if the fan is at 100% it still goes up to around 85c-90c (i checked myself just to be sure and thats what im getting). this happens in both games and mining.

i say 75c on full load, while mining, is perfectly fine. i go up to around 72-74c while gaming though. but i live in arizona. my 7950 idles at around 28c. but if its usually around 90f where you live, then all i can reply with is "the silicon lottery" or maybe its because i have my 7950 overclocked to 1180mhz on core and 1500mhz on memory. but i do not and will not overclock my 280x until i see it max temp as 71c or lower at stock speeds.

anyway, i have an NZXT source 210 case with two fans in front of my drive, one fan on the side, and one fan on the back. this is the same config i had on my 7950 and am now using with the 280x.

my power supply is a CX750 and my motherboard is an Asrock Extreme4 z77. hope this, probably useless, info helps.

What is the average room temperature? How about case temps?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

EDIT: just looked at the video card showdown thread. tried looking at the temps of the 280x but it didnt show any. darn.

currently i am downloading drivers 13.11 beta 9.5. last one i downloading was beta 9.4 so hopefully 9.5 shows progress. i am hoping its the drivers.

my 7970 hits 85c in bf4 and in the high 70c s when mining i reapplied my thermal paste. you might want to try that.

i already re-applied my thermal paste. i checked the toms hardware link that was posted and i saw that full gaming load on a club3d royalking 280x is at a temperature of 74c on full gaming load. well when i play bf3 it goes up to 81c and when i run valley benchmark it goes up to 90c. mining takes it up to 93c. and with fans at 100%, it brings it down to around 85-86c.

i have owned two 7870s and a 7950 and their temps were around 63-70c when gaming and 73c-75c when mining. ill check again on my 7950 just to be sure.

according to this site http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-r9-280x-royalking.html

this is what it says

Minimum of 750 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6 pin PCI Express supplementary power connector
Club 3D recommends CSP-D850CB 850 Watt Switching Power Supply

im gonna check it with a killawatt. this is hard to believe. maybe its for a crossfire config? i have a corsair cx750.
