raid RAID with windows

Hey,

I have 2 1TB hard drives and I would like to put them in RAID with windows on. I do not know if its possible to RAID with windows on the drives. Do I need to hardware RAID in the bios before I install windows or is it possible to do it afterwards once windows is installed? Thanks

if you want windows booting off of the raid, you need to do it in bios, or with a hardware raid card.

 

that said, why would you want to put hard drives in raid for a windows install?

Not for windows really, but for the rest of the storage for redundancy. I guess it would be possible to make separate partitions and software RAID them?

Do you have a backup already? If not, I would forget about RAID and use one drive as an external backup. 

 

While RAID will provide redundancy, preventing downtime, it won't protect you from dataloss, at least, not to the extent a backup will. RAID is useful for servers and systems where downtime is unacceptable, a backup is useful for everyone. 

 

If you do have one, I wouldn't bother with messing around with trying to RAID partitions. At that point, you may as well RAID the drives in the BIOS and then install Windows on the RAID array.
