I'm kindof in the same spot as you. I bought 559s yesterday, and while using the PC I DID need an amp to get a higher volume level, but quality is perfect even without it. I'm just an old(30) metal head, and love to have it ear splittingly loud. Plus I have kids so I am deaf anyway.......  But getting to your question, from what I have read the 598s don't need an amp, but again it depends on your usecase. I listened to them at the store when I bought mine yesterday, I'm not sure what kinda setup they have them plugged into, but they were loud and sounded great. Not sure if they have some kinda amp under the display that their headphones are plugged into though.

I have no idea, Pre-Built PC..

I'd suggest getting a dac/amp then. While on-board codecs have come a long way, they still arent as good. The interference caused by all the electricity and such is pretty much taken care of, but if you're gonna buy a high dollar set of cans you would benefit more from something to plug them into over the internal stuff on your PC. What kind of prebuild is it?

I'll get a DAC but what DAC should I buy to power them? Any suggestions?

Thinking about the FiiO E10K USB DAC

I've heard good things about that. I actually asked a question very similar to this one yesterday, it is actually right under your question in the forums. There was some other suggestions that people listed there if you want to check it out.

With your other thread about DAC's, I'd thought you'd already gotten the HD598, just try it with onboard/mobo first and see if it gets loud enough for your taste. If not, then consider an external amp or DAC stack/combo.
