GTX 970 Poor overclock

I have an EVGA GTX 970 SSC that I've been using for a couple months. Recently I decided to overclock, to get better performance. Unfortunately, my GPU runs extremely hot at stock speeds, and I can only get a stable +75 on the Core and +75 on the Memory. Going any higher on the core causes green flashing frames. Please help.

Set custom fan curve to increase the fan speed first.

 

Next, get GPU-Z and check the ASIC quality of this card.

had my old 970 ftw running at 1500mhz with 70°C max

Voltage is locked, and I'm not comfortable with high temps and fan speed.

I understand with temps, but why fan speed?

well you're running a older version of afterburner,maybe thats why voltage is locked. why arent you comfortable with higher fan speeds,is noise the issue?

if you want a quiet card with low temps you shouldnt overclock

It get's too loud, and it bothers the people I live with.

Slightly worse than average, but not that bad. Still good enough for some overclocking

Then you should consider undervolting instead. In Afterburner you have to unlock voltage monitoring and voltage control in the settings menu first. Then you have to adjust the clock speed to one you can live with (undervolting uses overclocking headroom to reduce heat production). I'll get more on that if you are interested.

I updated MSI Afterburner, all my drivers and unlocked the voltage thanks to Jurrunio.

I unlocked the voltage, can you talk about what you brought up? Seems like it could helpful.

Eh, oops. Older nvidia cards can only undervolt with BIOS modding.... Then at this point all you can do is take away the overclock and reduce the power limit. Sorry for getting you excited.

Okay thanks, frankly performance at stock is still fine. Appreciate the help.
