Pirate Bay has been doing something like this for a long time. I think there's actually an opportunity here. I won't go any further because I'm actually exploring the legality of it and contemplating doing it.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

You could just use a plugin like noscript to prevent coinhive from running since it is written in JavaScript. Anyways I find it a stretch to call it malware in many scenarios (Unless some site had been infected by another group) since a few sites are doing this by design. Most only run from within your browser and end after leaving the website anyways.
