I found a great deal on Facebook for a guy selling ram. I currently have 6 1gb sticks in my pc because it needs triple channel. I want to know if it would be a bad idea to spend $30 to get 3 2gb sticks and put them with the 1gb sticks to get 9gb of RAM. Anyone have advice for me?

So you have 6 ram slots? I would just get the 3 2gb sticks and then buy another 3gb one, instead of having a 3x1gb + 3x2gb configuration...

But seriously, what platform, what motherboard, and what RAM generation do you have? I've never heard of triple channel ram.

If you have triple channel, you probably have an x58 System. 2 GB DIMMs are cheap; 6 2GB DIMMs shouldn‘t cost significantly more than 30$, just search on ebay for „DDR3 6x2gb“. Mixing 1 and 2 GB modules is no issue, but it doesn‘t really make sense nowadays.

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

I have an i7 920 on a TBGM01 motherboard. I got the system prebuilt a long time ago so that's why I don't know too much about the mobo. The board has six RAM slots, currently fully populated with 1GB DDR3 DIMMs.
