I`m looking for a laptop around 2000 Cad but not too heavy so I can use in class but also to game.

I found this one on newegg : https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234458CVF

And is it worth it to pay the extra for a 1070 or is it better to go with something cheaper and a 1060?

Give some examples of your gaming use cases. Which I will argue towards just getting the 1070 for the simple fact of... Let's say the 1060 does everything you want for.. say.. 5 years. However with a 1070 it may last you 8 years or something of the sort. But all of these depend on your usages

Avoid Asus GL line
If you want a portable gaming laptop then Aero 15 is the best choice. MSI GS VR and Clevo P950 also OK but no battery life. Don't get a thin and light laptop with 1070, the GPU runs hot and a good cooling is necessary

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16ACH6

Phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro 8+128

What games do you play?

I bit of everything from dota 2 to triple AAA games. The main reason I`m looking to change is that the laptop I have now isnt able to play some of those AAA even in the lowest settings in 1080p

I thought the 400 or so difference for a 1070 would help to keep the laptop for 3 years or so

I would recommend the Asus, you also might want to do some research on battery life.

My favorite restaurant is hooters

But why? Thermal management on the GL502VS is almost crap, throttling everywhere, the GL502VM almost can't handle the 1060 and you want to throw in a 1070 in the identical thin chassis?

Again, the GL502VS runs HOT. Build quality also questionable.
MSI laptops have no battery life so think twice. Never heard of GX series though. But it's quite thin and light. Thin and GTX 1070 isn't a good idea unless you enjoy the toaster
