Current Specs:

AMD A10-7850k

GTX 1050ti

8gb ddr3

500w EVGA B1

What i currently do, League of Legends with a second monitor beside me running a bunch or tabs, maybe a youtube vid as well, discord as well with friends, spotify etc.

GTA 5 with nothing in the background because my cpu is really bottlenecking.

H1z1 with nothing in the background except for discord

A little photoshop

A little homework

I want 60fps-ish give or take in titles like GTA with background tasks.

What i can afford? Well lets just say 500ish before tax CANADIAN DOLLARS!!!!!! That includes mobo and 8gb ddr4.

I've been thinking.... R5 1600, I5 8400 other ryzen cpu's etc.

CPU recommendations commence!

You can get a b350 motherboard (Small form factors) for around $45 (USD) 8gb ddr4 for around $65 if you find a cheap kit. then you could go for a R5 1600

I've explored that option, but i really like the fps that the i5 is bringing.

Honestly the i5 is a good cpu and so is the r5 1600. You seem to like to multitask a lot which is why the r5 1600 does seem like it would suit you better but if you plan to play games with nothing in the background then the i5 should be fine and give you that great fps. If you start adding a lot of background tasks on gpu intensive games it probably will start to affect your game performance. Honestly if Intel had other boards besides the z370 then I would say the i5 8400 is the better choice hands down but because they don't I think it's more of a toss up and comes down to personal preference and use case.

You're leaning towards Intel, which definitely isnt a bad option. Id just wait until January honestly since your APU will hold you over until then and we should see some cheaper mobos for LGA1151v2 at the start of 2018.

but you dont necessarily need it right this minute. Also youll be able to get an i5 8400, 8GB DDR4 and a B360/H370 mobo for $350 before tax. Idk how much tax is but im pretty damn positive you wont be paying $150 in tax. Or you could buy an i5 8400 right now with 8GB DDR4 and a cheap Z370 board for a little under $400, again, before tax.

Certainly not Canadian dollars getting me all that under 350.

Also overclocking the r5 1600 will bring up its single threaded performance.

And it still wont match an i5 8400, or even an i3 8100 for that matter. You buy Ryzen for its multithread performance, which isnt even a huge benefit in a lot of situations, even heavier workloads. Like editing videos with Adobe programs, an i5-8400 is going to perform better than an R5 1600, despite having half as many threads.

$450CAD before tax right now for an i5 8400, 8GB DDR4 amd Z370 mobo. Expect to knock $50-60 off when cheaper mobos are available. Id for sure recommend waiting for cheaper boards since they shouldnt be more than 3 months away and your 7850k will last until then, but you dont really have to wait.

They seem to be all out of stock in Canada right now, but expect more stock within the month. You can pre-order them from a couple of places I think.

Thank you for convincing me to go the i5 route, it's much better in benchmarks
