What is substratum?

Okay so I know this is a bit simple minded but what is the substratum theme engine and what does it do?

well, it's a theme engine. it themes the system UI and apps (most common are Gapps, Google apps like the YouTube app*). recently it got an update to work with Samsung and a couple other non-pixel or non-nexus phones, but i think it requires buying an additional key 

 

*it requires theme-ready Gapps. Gapps on their own cannot be themed

So it won't work with LG?

not sure. if it was, bear in mind that the themes won't be as extensive as a nexus or pixel phone
