This is a tentative build and at the limits of what I want to spend.. but with Vega being a giant pile of turd I may do this build in the next month or so (waiting on the 1070Ti's to drop/reviews/availability). Went with the SL06 because GN has showed it has some of the best thermals and at that price point is hard to beat. Power supply is probably over kill but I am going to be over clocking the 7 to whatever I can get out of it along with overclocking the video card so having headroom is a good thing. I'll be taking 2 S3 SSD's from my current build along with 1 TB mechanical drive on top of the 960 for my boot/iRacing drive.

Looks like a nice solid build to me. I'd wait for a second opinion though.

NVMe SSDs don't provide actual benefits over cheaper SATA drives for tasks like opening programs, and booting into Windows. You'd be better off saving the money, and getting a SATA SSD.

The FTW3 is a nice card, with fancy thermal sensors and stuff. But for a little more, you could get the MSI Sea Hawk, which has an AiO, so it should be better cooled.

The PSU is overkill, unless you want to add a second GPU to the build later.

The PSU is decent, tier 2 in the list. But for less, you could get the Focus Plus Gold (tier 1) or G2 (tier 1) in 850W. Or for a little more, you could get the RMx (tier 1). Those would be better choices.

There are a couple of less expensive 27" 1440p 165Hz G-sync monitors, but I'm too lazy to look for reviews of them. Might be worth considering, since you could save $150.

OK, changed PS... went with a Seasonic 750W. Not a fan of water cooling in any form. I did see cheaper G-Sync monitors but would like an IPS panel if possible.

Forgot to mention that it was IPS. PCPP has filters. Set the resolution to 2560*1440, yes to IPS, G-sync, >144 Hz refresh rate, and screen size to ≥27". Least expensive one this AOC monitor.

Will you get a second 1080 Ti to put in SLI? If not, then a 650W is enough.

Wow, great pick up.. didn't realize there were much cheaper options. Funny part about the SS PS... the 650W and 750W are the same price, both 90 at Amazon. So with that being the case might as well go 750. For whatever reason the SuperBiiz price is bogus.. only the 90 dollar ones are in stock.

  • 4 weeks later...

@seon123 I LOVE the monitor.. great pick. Got the system up and running.. currently at a 3.9G overclock at 1.3625 volts, probably could have lived at 1.35 but the bit of extra voltage will help it stay stable. Streamed my first iRace last night and it went smoothly.. practice for 30, race session for 35 or so on top of that.. no problems. After practice checked the CPU utilization and while streaming 4 of the cores were 50% utilization or less, so I got headroom.

Glad to hear that. You certainly got a better overclocked than my 1500X. That thing is only stable at 3,925 GHz at 1,4V.

The 1700, especially when overclocked, is a great chip
