Well that's SATA M.2, and not NVMe M.2 connector.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work if your motherboard does have M.2 slot.

And yes, that should work on coffe lake motherboards aswell, since they also support M.2.

I see no reason it shouldn't fit, as long as it supports the length, but it looks pretty standard.

And as Simon stated, it's Sata not NVMe. It shouldn't fit in his board, so it's a bit sketchy I think that he tells you it isn't compatible. Unless he thinks it goes into a PCIe slot... ( I don't buy hardware from people I don't know, because I don't trust most people)

also if I upgrade to coffeelake like next year or something will the mb be compatible?

as this is SATA not NVME, you really wont get the benefit of lightning fast storage that people expect with m.2, but yes, most m.2 ports support sata mode (but not always supporting PCIx4 NVME)

My mb supports 2260/2280 while his z97 supports 2280 and I figured out that the m.2 is 2260

I think that's why. Plus it was from a laptop. Whats the for digit number mean?

2280 is just number that tells you lenght of your M.2 ssd.

I just argued with a guy on facebook about something similar.  He was trying to get me to lower the price of the m.2 drive I was selling because he found a cheaper one.  I kept trying to explain to him that the cheaper one (which had a suspiciously low price) wouldn't fit in his motherboard because it was a different key.  He wouldn't listen, so finally I told him to just take the other deal.  When I saw this thread I thought you might be the guy I was talking to. xD

On pc part picker it says it's not other compatible saying

  • icon_warning_sgl.gif1 additional mSATA slot is needed.
  • icon_warning_sgl.gifSanDisk - X110 128GB mSATA Solid State Drive and Asus - H97M-E/CSM Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard are not compatible.

mSATA isn't the same as M.2.  You selected the wrong drive.

Edit: Looks like they don't have that drive on PCPartPicker.  It's probably because it's sold out everywhere.
