BIOS update issue

So here is my issue, my Laptop an "Alienware R2" has a Bios update.  But my laptop also has a dead battery and has to stay plugged in or it will turn right off.  Every time I turn on my computer I am promoted with a DOS message saying your battery is in critical condition.  Press F1 to continue to boot computer, or F2 to troubleshoot/set-up.  Knowing that I have an issue with my power, and a delayed boot-up because of the message prompt screen , is it okay to update my Bios?  I would hate to have it get messed up, or throw a weird issue because of my battery troubles.  Hoping the community can help me out on this one.  Also I have my Computer hooked up to a battery back up, in case the power should ever go out.
