Hey guys, i just got the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro and i´m not that satisfied. The sound of it is very similar to the Hyperx Cloud 2 , just a little bit better, but it doesn´t feels like it´s  worth double the price of the cloud 2.

Do you know why this could be? (i got the DT990 Pro with 250 Ohm btw)

Thanks !

@NinJake no, im not, @Majestic I just listened to YouTube on highest quality,

to this, do i need a Soundcard or anything in that direction?

Not sure what you're expecting the DT990's to do better? That's just a bunch of sampled synths with bass. Not really the type of music you judge headphones with.

Not sure how much bass you’d want out of an open back headphone but you’ll never get that much bass out of an open back headphone.

Rather than the quantity of the bass, you need to focus more on the quality of the bass and the sound overall. A better headphone always have better clarity in general

Yeah, like xtroria'd said, it's not about quantity, it's more to do with the quality of the bass. Obviously, don't expect first gen Beats' basshead level bass, listen for a more controlled (tight) bass that doesn't bleed into mids and muddy up the sound. I had the first gen HX Cloud and while it did a pretty good job for games (soundstage was a tad narrow though, but I'd expected it due to its closed back design), I'd found that for music, it was less than satisfactory (please bear in mind that I'd, at that point in time, had gotten my HD800, so I guess my ears had been 'spoiled'). There was muddiness and certainly a lack in clarity and detail retrieval, again, I blame the HD800 for spoiling things for me.

The link I posted, suggests that the 250ohm version of those 990s requires a proper amplifier to get the full potential.

Well, some would say that as long as the can gets loud enough, it's been sufficiently powered, others would argue that an external amp would improve on the quality of the sound in general....take your pick as to what to believe. I can't help you on this as I've always had my cans hooked up to DAC stack/combo and never through my mobo, so I can't say either way....

Nah fam, DT990's can be powered by phones. He expected more bass out of an open-back headphone compared to a closed-back headphone. That's where he went wrong.

@Majestic Yes, it can be powered by phones, but it isn´t very loud. I will gave the DT990 back, because i didn´t see a big difference between the sound of my cloud 2 and the DT990 pro, That´s probably because of the 250 ohm. And i think of buying a Fidelio x2 , what do you think about that one ?

X2's has a lot of mid bass and poor deep bass extension and no it wasn't  because of the impedance rating with the 990s, you expected the wrong things.

@Dackzy well, im using my headphones for gaming (league of legends) and for music, in music, they are both good, with the DT990 a bit better, but in league of legends, the sound of the Cloud 2 were much better... so what should i expect to see the difference , would you say ?

The clouds and 990s are pretty different in how they sound, the treble in the 990s is very sharp and can easily annoy quite a few people and just the quality of each frequency range is higher on the 990s, but those does not mean more of a given frequency range.

It seems like you might be a bit confused about what you want, I would recommend that you go out and try a lot of different headphones and then buy the pair you like the most.

Also keep in mind some people simply don't pick up on a lot of the changes.

So far then I don't think that there are going to be any open that are going to fit your taste in this budget range.

@Dackzy i think, i should´ve bought the Dt770 with 80 or 32 ohm, because of the closed back, so the bass is stronger and the sound is louder in general. And i didn´t want to buy an amplifier, cause it´s to expensive for me (everything together). I bought the Dt990 Pro just for testing and i made sure to buy one, where i can sent it back for no costs. So maybe i will buy the DT770 with 80 ohm or eventually the Fidelio x2, i also thought about the ath-m50x

M50x suck, those are not even worth looking at, muddy mids sharp highs, bad comfort,  pads break fast and zero soundstage. X2s are mid bass headphones, don't expect a lot of deep bass,  the dt770s are great for deep bass.

@Dackzy Okay, thx, i also thought about the sennheiser game one https://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sennheiser+game+one would you say it is bad or viable ?

It is basically just HD 558 with a mic,  so I am not sure of they are going to be your taste.
