Used 980 ti

hconverse02

Hello, I was looking to upgrade my 4gb rx 460 sometime in the future to a card that will last 1080p/1440p/4K for 6ish years. Obviously the rx 460 can’t do ultra 1080p, let alone 1440p and 4K, so I did some looking on craigslist and eBay. I found a dude selling his 2 980tis and he said he could lower the price to $325 for one unit (I one need one of them). Is that a good price for a 6gb evga sc+ variant? He claims that it overclocks very well

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

futureproofing is hard, but a 980ti is still a great and strong card ~1070 or higher depending on OC ;)

i can run 60fps on 3440x1440 with witcher3 maxed or ~80-100fps in BF1

going from 1080p maxed to 1440p maxed is still a great improvement keep that in mind

you also didnt mention the hz you target ( 60hz / 120hz/ 144hz etc ) which is also a great improvement going from 60 to like 120hz

even a 1080 wont last for 6 years i guess, depending on the games

Preferably I would be using 1080p/1440p through college so 4K is just an option

“Futureproofing” used loosely. Will the performance of a 980ti be the same in 6 years? I am looking to stay 1080p/1440p until I would have the money and time to upgrade again in 4-6 years

In that case at 1440p it should last 2-3 years easally(on AAA games) easally, there is no telling though.

What do you mean my last 2-3 years? Do you mean as games get more complex, the limit of the card will eventually bottom out?

Lack of driver support for it is your enemy. Just imagine having a GTX 690 today

Games get more demanding and this is the usual upgrade cycle of a PC

Nope... $325 for a 980ti is not good, did u see how both teams got one for around 200$ in SYW S5.And no it will not futureproof you for 6ish yrs, definately not at 4K.

Yes they do,and That's a good profit while selling if you are able to sell it (happens a lot in of websites, where in a particular area there is a lack of hardware, like in SYW S5,though they still got a good deal for a 980ti where there were just Macs, they anyway had to find a good deal else the system would not fit in the $500 budget). While buying it's definately not a good choice buying it for so high (i mean try to get the best deal possible) because 440$ is not a good deal for a 980ti,but somehow you were able to sell it,which is your profit,i'd try to get it for 200$ by putting more time getting a better deal, instead of finding a deal easily where the price is so high, compared to putting more hardwork than money, you can get 2 of them for that price then.

Should I try and get it down to $275 or $250? No other local prices are that low though . EDIT: i could also wait a few years with my rx 460 and get a completely new card to go with ryzen in a few years.

you could try, the worst case would be a "no" from the seller and there are plenty GPUs on the market ;)

I think a good price for the 980 Ti right now is between $200-275. It's faster than the 1060 but more power hungry. Obviously the lower the price the better but bids are bids...

The 970 now is only worth around 100-140 I think.
