Hello everyone i have decided to go build a raid 0 thunderbolt 2 assembly with 4 x ssd's. I have so far purchased 1 x 512GB Samsung 850 Evo Pro. I thought that this would be in my price range however my financial needs have changed and spending 230 EUR for 3 x more seems a bit too much. Given the fact that Thunderbolt 2 speed capacity is 20Gbit/s and that i already own 1 x 512GB Samsung 850 Evo Pro (MLC V NAND) what would be the best way to finish this project? Samsung 850 Evo 500GB for example which is an inferior ssd with a TLC V NAND, is at 163 and this seems a bit reasonable at the time being. However, would that be a wise option? Should i wait longer and get the Evo Pro slowly? Advice needed!

Where did you get the idea for thunderbolt RAID? It's interesting but probably not the most stable system to ever be created.

And because you're putting more than 3 drives in RAID performance starts to have diminishing returns anyway.

Imagine having a RAID array with 3 5400RPM HDDs (Cheaper SSDs) and a 7200RPM HDD (850 EVO SSD)

The 7200 RPM Drive is going to be bottle necked to work at the same pace as the weaker drives. What I'm trying to get at here is that if you buy 3 more slower SSDs the performance will be slightly reduced but not by a huge amount.

What type of system are you using? Laptop/Desktop

How many SATA ports do you already have occupied within said system and how many are available still?

And what kind of storage do you already have internally?

CPU: R5 3600 @ 4.4 GHz

RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 3200 MHz

GPU: RTX 2080 Super

Hey James thanks for the reply. I have a mac pro and an akitio thunder2 quad https://www.akitio.com/desktop-storage/akitio-thunder2-quad

One slot is occupied by a 512gb 850 evo pro ssd. I have 3 more available. i got the idea because i will be able to read / write at 1000+ mb/s. my raid setup is similar to this one, however he is on hackintosh and not a normal mac.

just missing 3 more evo pro's. i was wandering if i should go full evo pros or get three more normal evos. obviously price is an issue now :)
