7970 problems?

so up until now i havnt had any problems with my gigabyte 7970 so last night i started playing assassins creed brotherhood which is quite an old game and at max settings at 1080p i was only getting 30fps the same thing happened to me on borderlands 2. so i tried them again today and now an assassins creed im getting 150fps which is what i should be getting, same thing with borderlands 2 i was getting about 80 fps on average which is normal for max settings 1080p but then it started dropping again, so i ran some benchmarks and it was getting worse and worse every time, does anyone know what might be happening here?

It may be a longshot but have you checked your processes that are going on, you may have something running that is having heavy usage on your system, it may explain fluctuation on your results?
