no internet connection

So I've just reinstalled windows 8.1 as I've just upgraded my computer, and so far it's worked, but I'm not able to connect to the internet with an Ethernet and I don't have a wireless adapter, but I've tried a lot of things and nothing has worked.

Go to netowork and sharing center > Change adapter settings. Tell me if you have ANY devices listed there. Ie. Realtek Ethernet Controller.

Look for your driver DVD and install the required drivers for your Ethernet controller. Or, if you have access to another system, download the latest from the manufacturer website and copy to a USB drive to install on your system.

 

If you provide us with your motherboard brand and model, we can help you narrow down that search.

My motherboard is an asrock ab350m pro4

Okay, that's a start. Now, go to your start menu and type "CMD" and open it. Then type "ipconfig" and show me the output of that command.

Wait yeah you are. But there's no gateway... hmmm.

 

There's a couple of reasons this could happen, like you have a static IP set on the wrong subnet, but I somehow doubt that since it's a fresh install.

 

Anyone else can chime in at this point...

looks like hes just getting a self assigned Ip, because that is not a valid public IP address 

 

you might want to go back  to network and sharing center > Change adapter settings > double click on your adapter you saw > Hit Properties > Double click Internet protocol V4 > and make sure obtain an ip address automatically and obtain DNS server automatically are checked.

 

also are any other devices on your network having trouble connecting.

also if you know the ip address of your router try to ping it from CMD prompt 

 

if other devices on your network can't connect either it might be something with your DHCP server
