I just flipped my r9 295x2 for quite a bit more than i bought it for 2 years ago (thank you miners), so now i have 600 euro to spend and need a new gpu.

I ran it in a loop with my 6600k for my 1440p ips monitor, so my idea was to just get a used 980 ti with a waterblock for 300 bucks from ebay, but maybe

somebody got a better idea? Id also consider using the excess money to upgrade my setup, but Im not sure what to get, a 4k monitor maybe?.

You can get a GTX 1080 at that budget, which itself is the high value option among high end cards.

I currently run a 3440x1440 Gsync on the 980Ti. Before that, I've used a 4k 60Hz.

Based on that experience, I would strongly argue against 4K for gaming. I couldnt really see the difference in pixel-density, but the difference in FPS is obvious! It would rather take higher settings and/or higher FPS at 1440.

If I would be in the market today, I would pick a 1080 with a 1440P Gsync, if your budget allows it. A 980Ti might be almost as powerful as a 1070, but a used one should be at least 100 Buckes cheaper! Consider the noise, power-draw and heat!

People are flipping their 980tis for 1080tis so I can get a 980 ti with a full cover block for only 300.

A 1080 would be an option, but it would be quite rare to find one used with a watercooler (go for around 500).

Then again I dont really need that much performance for only 1440p 60hz unless im downsampling.

Okay, at this prices you're absolutely right to get a 980Ti! Its the better value and while it won't get the 60Fps Min (!) on every game at ultra, it perfoms quite well on 1440P!
