Need some help here. I'm relatively new to RGB, especially non standard ones where I have to plug extra cables in myself.  I've purchased three RGB fans from Corsair (HD120s) with the RGB controller they've sent over.  Anyway, I've installed everything but I'm having issues with getting them to work properly.  I've plugged all three cables into the controller in the designated slots (1, 2, 3) leaving 4, 5, 6 empty as the manual says.  However, number 1 fan wont show color at all, number two fan has 2 of the dozen or so LEDs showing and fan 3 doesn't show any color at all. If I switch the fan leads in the controller it allows fan number 1 to show all 12 LEDs to show and then fan 2 shows nothing.  Fan 3 hasn't had positive contact, regardless of the configuration I've used on the controller.

However, I'd like to forego the whole controller thing and plug the LED leads directly into the motherboard if possible... I've tried that, but nothing lights up at all... The motherboard in question is the ASUS STRIX Z270F, if that helps.

I appreciate any help I can get with this, thank you.

I don't think you can do that, since the fans use corsair proprietary stuff AFIAIK. maybe the controller can go into the motherboard, but I doubt it.

Do you think the controller could be bad? I'm confused on how the differences in lighting zones change when they're swapped between ports.

If you hook the fans up 1 at a time to port #1 only, what happens with each fan?

There are DIY methods to using HD120 + Aura, but they are very DIY and I would not recommend it at least until you know the fans work right in the first place. Modding the fans will kill your warranty.

If everything is plugged in correctly you may just have a bad controller, there is no plug and go solution for those fans to operate via the motherboard.
