gaming Gaming & Programming laptop, what do you think?

Hey I would like to buy a laptop that will be for medium gaming (LOL, counter strike, etc...), For programming: PyCharm, sublime, WebStorm. Also I would like to use some editing programs like Photoshop. I would like to know what do you think about this laptop.

For your requirements in programming, the 16GB of ram should be enough, CPU is powerful enough and has good base/turbo frequencies, storage capacity is plenty for your needs and the laptop itself has lots of features. However, the wifi connectivity only supports 802.11 bgn, AC is the standard in terms of todays wifi connectivity. The HDD is spinning at a slower 5400rpm which shouldnt affect performance when it comes to boot times and such.

How the wifi connectivity will affect me?

What do you think about the build quality of this laptop? Also do you recommend other laptops in this budget? Also is this laptop reliable?

The wifi connectivity shouldnt affect you for your work, its just that it supports an older wifi standard, the N standard. In terms of the build quality, dell laptops generally do well in this segment. i'd recommend alienware but since i have no way to contact dell to vent my frustration over their bios turning off onboard GPU if AGA is used has made things annoying. I do program and game too but i also multi processor and cluster programming. You can imagine my surprise when the AGA doesnt let you have multiple GPUs and its not a PCIe lane issue either. The other problem imposed by this is that i cant use non GPUs in the AGA due to this bios "feature" of GPU checking and disabling onboard GPU.

 

So dont get alienware, we should boycott alienware until dell comes to their senses regarding the AGA. Not to mention they dont have models with nvidia optimus anymore so battery life sucks (i got mine while they still had giving me a portable programming powerhouse with 10 hours of battery life).

the link you had in your first post, for that inspiron; that machine is perfect. and what others have said about the wifi, if you look close at the specs on that page, you will see it does have ac wifi.

It has much less storage. Also I know a lot of people who had bad experience with acer.

Also what do you think about it's battery? I saw that the inspiron 15 7000 gaming has a great battery, this one has it as well?

i don't know about that. i don't have one. i just look at specs and stuff.

 

i do know that my laptop, with a dual core i5 and 950m, is empty within an hour when gaming. but doing normal stuff it can last for 6-8 hours.

since that dell has MUCH more powerful hardware than my laptop, i expect it to be empty really soon if you start gaming on battery.

i don't do that either... i assume that doesn't take much power. it's only when you execute code that it ramps up, at least i think so.

 

and by the way, unless you get something really power efficient, all laptops will have terrible battery life if you max them at 100% constantly.
