Hey guys i have been reading a lot about folding/mining of Litecoin/Bitcoins and i wonder if i should get into that kind of stuff.

I think that it's to late for bitcoins but there is still hope with Litecoins. For Christmas i will be getting about 1000€ and i wonder if i should build a folding rig. What i came up with until now is this

Thanks for helping me.

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. If it's a mining rig, you are wasting your cash on giving it proper desktop storage. Literally the only thing that would matter is a quality motherboard, power supply and the AMD cards themselves. For everything else, you get the bare minimum since they aren't going to be used anyway. Ditch the SSD and get the cheapest HDD possible.

who is paying the power bill?

My parents but i asked my dad if that was ok and he said yes but only if i pay the half of the power that that pc will consume while mining. (We have nice green eco electricity so it's a bit pricy a 27 cents the kwh. The system will consume about 600 Watts and 0.6 x24= 14.4 x 30= 432 x 0.27= 116.64/2 = 58.32.)

I don't want the HDD to fail that's why WD Red also i just love SSDs. (I'm optimizing for silence that's why i over spend on some parts. I wan't to sleep while mining litecoins. (My room is only  20 mso i won't have the option to put it like 10 meters away from me)

Just get the SSD. All you'd really need is an OS installed + the mining software. Not sure how much this will help since those cards will be stressed out and will probably ramp their fans up to an annoying loud RPM.

Well if he is doing that he can just boot off a USB and run linux really. I mean a 16GB flash drive would be plenty for the OS, minning software, drivers, and folding@home. (maybe not the wallet though that like @ 2GBs now.)

I'm fine with the cards running at 90-95 degrees. (Nice AMD thinks it's fine. Also i have like 5 bequiet silent wings fans left over and these will be quiet and give me a good airflow)

No. The Pool stores your LTC untill you cash out. Then you can send them to your real PC for safer keeping. Also there are online wallets also also you can create a backup wallet that you can import and export. (save my ass once.)

ok then i will ditch the wd red.  Since it seems like you know a lot Litecoin mining could you tell me how many LT i will to per day? And if it will be profitable (power will run me about 1.91€ a day)

Lol no they're stored in your LTC. Get a flashdrive for like 5$ with 64 gigs like the ones linus just made a video about, do it all on there. Then get a solid stable HDD for later on when you do store them and treat it like ur baby.

As for your 'noise' you do realize those AMD cards will be louder then anything? so it doesnt matter if the rest of the rigg is. Put a tv in ur room, or use your computer to watch movies while u sleep and it mines. Better then having just a fan whinning.

you dont need a case at all, just get an open stand. unless you have a messy dusty or wet room. Get a cheap 10$ case. You don't need a cpu cooler just the stock heatsink will work. Go down to 2gigs of ram. for another 20$ you can get platinum efficiency and 860 watts from seasonic, so if you add anymore gpus later youll be good, and it has a 98% effiecney I believe? It's 98 or 94

I'd grab your cpu and ram off ebay btw, super cheap old products brandnew.

You won't make enough to make it worth it. (I'm pretty sure, not a Litecoin expert lol but someone else should answer.)

Weird from what i have read so far that thing should mine about 1.5 LC a day which is like 40€. 40- 1.91= 38.09 how is that not profitable?

That should get about 900 k/h so it should be good :)

You may get more but going 24/7 you will get about 0.50 ltc a day and 3.23 a week....

So in short at the price it is now I would go for it.....But I would hold on to some of your coins I think the price may hit $100 a ltc (that is as long as btc stays up in price)

just remember ... don't confuse folding with mining.. they are two seperate things entierly, folding is a form of charity where processing power is put to good use while mining is purely profit, also is this system going to be dedicated towards mining only and nothing else? not going to use it as a normal pc aside from mining? if so you should make it more barebones... it will probably take you a while to earn back the money of the initial system purchase going with a full system like this case ssd+ harddrive etc.. you want to make the build more plain and mainly buy parts just so that it is functional for mining and nothing else, basicly you want to surround the gpu's with the essential hardware required to make them run stable, because at the end of the day that's your only goal, to get the gpu's to mine.

You might be fine with it, but the cards likely won't.

Why not? I think that was AMD's thing? Hotter but moar power.

I was under the impression 1.5 would be more like a double 290x setup. I figured you'd make about half that. Do the math with hashing

Lol just because a stock heatsink sucks and a company lets their products overheat or reach higher tempretures to seem like they're more powerful doesn't make it good for the gpu.

You should wait till decent aftermarkets come out, grab them, and if you ARE going to have a case, have 3 decent fans for intake and exhaust.

It may not improve performance but will improve longevity.
