looking for cheap a switch!

so i would like to make my network 10g because of my up and coming nas i have 2 computers and the nas..so i'm womnderubg if they make a cheap 10g 5 port switch..

The cheapest 10g switch i could find on Newegg is this. So what exactly is your definition of cheap?

 

Not to mention for that to actually work both your nas and computers have 10g network cards in them. Which are also not 'cheap'.

well i dont plan on getting it all at once spread it at over a fews month maybe  a year idk, but i figure i need 3 nic's for the 2 hosts and the nas the cables are fairly cheap, and for the switch i would be getting used lol

They also need to have the same type of connector (to an extent)

If OP buys an RJ-45 switch they need to have RJ-45 10Gb ports on all the devices and if they get an SFP switch then they'll need to run fiber. There are a few with both SFP and RJ-45 ports but they are much more expensive than the one you listed

yeah i was planning rj-45, and i figure i can make this for less then $500

Honestly if you really want to increase your network speed, just get dual port nics for your computers and use link aggregation. 'Technically' you would get a 2g network. I find it hard to see you saturating a 10g line inside your home network constantly.

well it's just my nas trasnfering system images  from computer over wifi to the nas, it takes i think 2 hours i believe..

What model NAS do you have?

homebuilt with unraid...i did try freenas but i couldent get the hang of it, i like unraid much better
