Hi,

For the first time since I changed my motherboard, my PC restarted while I was playing a game. Restarts did happen randomly with my old motherboard but I thought it was solved now. So I wasn't just playing that game, I was also rendering a video with After Affects, I had around 15 Chrome tabs opened, 3-4 doc files opened, my code editor was running too with around 10 files opened, and I was also syncing files online. This might be a lot for my core i3 4130 and 8GB of RAM, but do you think this could the reason? I mean it's OK if the pc slows down but I don't understand why it would restart. There was no overheating whatsoever as the CPU temperatures never reach 40°C with the cooler I have. It happened only once thought, but is there any way to troubleshoot this issue?

André

Now i am just thinking out loud here, but could it be that your powersupply is triggering its protection? If this was also happening with your old mobo and you were putting such a big load on both the cpu and gpu then the powersupply could be the issue.

There is no such thing as IRL, there is only AFK...

It's 450W Gold PSU so I thought it was fine. Is there any way to get the actual cause, like a log file or something?

hmm a 450 gold psu should easily be able to handle that i3, unless you are pairing it with multiple high end gpu's. Is it losing power instantly and then restarting automatically? Maybe the Windows event logs contain some information.

I can see an event ID 41 (The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.). Not super helpful.

hmm i really suspect it is the powersupply, since the issue is not fixed with a new motherboard. What brand PSU are you using? and what videocard? Are you reusing the same cpu and ram from the old motherboard?

Same CPU and RAM. I bought the PSU from a famous French store, LDLC. They make LDLC-branded PSU's among other things.

How many rails does it have for the 12V? If there is more than one it could be an issue with suboptimal wiring to the various components

I'm not sure. I'd need to check that. Now I that you mention it, I'm also using a 800VA UPS. Maybe that's the problem.

yeah that's probably right, maybe getting that PSU checked would help. Buying a PSU from a renowned manufacturer might fix the issue, but there is no way to be sure without actually replacing it.
