After MANTLE was introduced, i have been hearing a lot about MANTLE being open and nvidia could implement the technology or in future microsoft supporting rebranded mantle or intel might introduce. The question arises is it really possible to implement that. To answer this first we need to think what mantle is? It is a direct access to AMD's graphics core next. Thereby exposing all graphics capability directly for the game developers. This helps in eliminating a middle ware api like directx. the processing done by any api or game engine will consume its on gpu and cpu clock cycle. this will definitly reduce the performance. so a direct hardware acess will increase the performance. So making this open does not mean others can implement since it is for the architecture and architecture is patent protected making it pointless. this can also be considered as marketting gimmic as this will expose them as more open. next can nvidia implement its own version for accessing its architecture. to understand this we need to consider one of the reason why directx was introduced. it is for simplicity. if a game developers have to develop game for each architecture it will be very hard and pricy. directx will eliminate the need for it. making game development easier. the advantage of mantle is that for console game developers has to develop foe the architecture. hence the cost required to implement mantle in games will be considerably less. Next if microsoft implement this for cross compatibility it will be same as directx..

This should be in the General Discussion section, but I do see the intention of this post.

This is one of the reasons I'm going for a 280X. The Mantle API will make a huge boost for me and maybe even more.

I have got a GTX780 Ti in my main rig and a R9 290X in my other rig and I will put Mantle and when it will be released with a good screen (27") G-Sync to the test and figure out what I like best.

It is nice to gain more FPS with Mantle, but most of the folks play on 1080p, and by having just highend cards, I don't see a big advantage in even more FPS. But I've got also an 1440p screen and then it will be more interesting.

On the other hand the G-Sync module will be pretty good I assume, but it remains to be seen what the prices for the monitors will be.

Hello, it's my first post here, I have been reading the forums for a while. I can't find anywhere info, when we should expect Mantle to be released. And how it's going to be distributed? Some setup, like the directX ones? Will there be a patch for BF4 and other supported titles at the Mantle launch, that will be required in order to run the game using that API? Such questions are in my mind lately, since I have a supported video card and I am eager to see Mantle in action. Thank you.

I'm not very good with Mantle, but if it being designed for the GCN architecture is what makes it faster, and as you said that limits how open it really is. What happens when GCN is replaced? Will it be able to main it's low levelness 5 years down the road?

it is open

if nvidia don't want use it, is nvidia problem

but the fact is... that it is open

and something to "remark" is that... nvidia "is not" the only gpu company in the world

this can reach even to "intel" in some future

is "open", do you see the difference ?

try do that with nvidia product  <_<

But isn't it low level because it is designed directly for the GCN GPU's?

Does Mantle somehow have the ability to retain it's low level access while working with multiple GPU architectures? If not, how could Nvidia possibly use it? And if it does, why can't DirectX and other solutions do this?

lol sorry friend, i forgot target the question with a quote to the main team, i was not focus on you

i just get mad when they quote that "something" open is not that good like people think

like... if it will be the same thing that the "something" that was not open (so untrue statement)

is true that may be hard to companies get this, but still... is possible

a very different position than... if it be impossible (on closed mode)

APU = A10

My guess is that their next gpu would use GCN 3.0 which probably would be hardware optimized for mantle allowing to get a even higher performance boost that GCN 1/2 + mantle. I'm just guessing though.
