Move windows?

Sometimes just cloning the hard drive will work, sometimes it won't - it's worth a shot but make sure you have a backup. Windows 10 might make it easier if your new pc is very recent since windows 7 may not have the required drivers for it by default.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Don’t clone the drive. Will result in a ton of bugs. You can physically move the hard drive for one pc to the other, or if you have the key still, uninstall it from one and slap it on the other. And yes, you should upgrade to Windows 10.

Since I am to lazy to put something interesting here, I will put everything, but slightly abbreviated. Here is everything:

I was just going to move the drive... Then that should not be a problem?

Not really since if the motherboard of the new computer is completely different to the one the OS is running on, it'll just blue screen on boot and the only way to fix it is to do a complete reinstall of the OS since windows 7 doesn't handle hardware changes as well as the later versions.

Also, as long as you're using the most current version of the windows 10 installation media the windows 7 code will be good for the respective version of windows 10 if you want to go through with a clean install on the new system.
