I have an OCZ ZT 750W PSU that has worked perfectly for 3 years. it is powering the parts in my signature. A few days ago I rotated my tower 90 degrees while it was one, it shutoff without warning. I figured out that the AC cable became dislodged. The system booted with the AM splashscreen telling me there was a power surge; I dismissed because I thought it was due to the cable being dislodged. Later that day after I had dinner and did my chores n shit, I go to PC and the AM splash screen shows its ugly face again. keep in mind the tower was stationary the whole time. Could I have damaged my PSU by accidentally disconnecting power? Could this pose a threat to my components? Should I replace the PSU?

You may have a damaged PSU but i feel you should start with a proper voltage regulator, the clicking on the regulator will tell you if you have hi/low voltage or probably a fault in building wiring. APC has some good noiseless ones.

what exactly does that do. i have a decent 12 socket surge protector

A voltage regulator will attempt to provide the proper level of voltage to your plugged in devices. A surge protector only cancels spikes up to a rated amount of joules, it does not smooth out the incoming voltage if it is low and low voltage can ruin your devices. Another good device is a UPS where if you plug into the battery side of the UPS you only take power from the battery so even if the power at your outlet is low/high/some other shit, your device will be accessing "clean" power and the UPS will take the hit for it.

If you mean the voltage regulator then this is enough for your PC, if your PC is the one listed in your hidden contents. I have the 600va version of that for my refrigerator and this for my HT, the Cyber Power one produces noise while the APC one does not.

oh and if you do decide to get the UPS with automatic voltage regulation then get one with Pure Sine Wave and not simulated Sine Wave.

thanks. is there a way to test, so I that I need a new PSU for sure. or could it just be my power strip. I prefer the issue to be with the power strip

Not that i know of. I would personally think the issue is either your incoming power or the strip because the PSU would have built in protection that hardly is damaged and then the PSU can still operate.

Do you have another power strip?...maybe try that if you do, if the PC stays on with no issues on another power strip then it is sure the other strip..

I do not know for sure but if my z77 -PRO board does then your own has to as well, if it is turned on or off is only something you can check. Check for it in the BIOS, not sure where exactly, mine says surge protect = enabled/disabled so look for that.
