Briefly my problem is this,

There's a .exe that crashes on my main PC but works just fine on VMWARE. So my question is...what's the (major) difference between VM and PC? xD

VM has the very exact same OS installed as on my PC. Same everything. Literally. Windows 8.1 x64 Pro build 9600 with exactly the same updates installed on it. I used the same .ISO file.

The .exe file is "sidebar.exe". It's a vista sidebar that used to work fine on my win8.1 PC but after some OS reinstalls it fails to start on my PC, it only works on my VM now.

So if a program works fine on VM but not on PC, what can the problem be?

(Crash details for 'sidebar.exe')

appcrash

fault module: oleaut32.dll

I debugged it with VS and it said there's some sort of access violation. So I checked if oleaut32.dll even exists on my PC and yes it does and it has correct path in registry too so this is very annoying.

You main OS may be corrupted.

I reinstalled 4x. It can't be corrupted. Plus as I said it worked on the same  PC and same OS way before.

The DLL is a Microsoft OLE Automation. It is missing or got corrupted from your system. You probably installed some crap software that did this, or used a system tweak tool that broke your OS. You need to clean install Windows to get it back.

It also included in Visual Basic runtime, which you can cross your fingers that it would fix your problem:

(Restart your PC after installation)

As to your other question.

what version of VMware are your running? Vmware has a huge swath of products and versions. its an older article but here is what the 5.0 version of the product contains.
