One of my buddies is building a PC. He is completely new to it and I only have one PC under my belt, so I do not want to mislead him. If he is getting the ASUS Crosshair VI Hero and the G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB(2x8gb) DDR4-3000 memory, will he have issues?

The config menu for the Crosshair VI Hero has the following memory frequencies listed: DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 3200. Does this makes the 3000 memory kit unusable and/or less efficient?

Thank you in advance for your help.

IIRC when enabling the XMP profile it should have an auto detect option, which should load the profile from the Ram's XMP chip and run it at its rated speed.

If there are issues you could always send the 3000 kit back and buy a 3200 kit, they're about the same price.

(Im not an expert about RAM though)

CPU: I5 4590 Motherboard: ASROCK H97 Pro4 Ram: XPG 16gb v2.0 4x4 kit  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 PSU: EVGA 550w Supernova G2 Storage: 128 gb Sandisk SSD + 525gb Mx300 SSD Cooling: Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP Case: Zalman T2 Sound: Logitech Z506 5.1 Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma Keyboard: DBPower LED

Is it actually already purchased? not point in asking about things now, you should have gotten Samsung B-die for better memory speeds

3200mhz CL 14 from G.skill Trident Z anyways, it's the only RAM ryzen likes, and the motherboard is wholly overkill. AIO is overpriced a good bit as well.

Case appears to have poor airflow.

Spent way too much on a monitor that isn't IPS

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Probably. Ryzen is still fairly picky about memory.

Why not post details on how the pc will be used, the budget, needed peripheral, and any preferences. You will get some excellent feedback.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
